When you need to insert some text information: a couple of words to title your film or several sentences to comment a scene, you can use one of the following options available in VSDC Video Editor.
Let’s see in details how to add a simple text to your video.
Step 1 Getting started
Launch VSDC Video Editor and create a new Project or open the Project you have already worked at. To add video or image files to your Project, select the necessary element from the “Add object” drop-down menu on the “Editor” tab or use the corresponding buttons on the toolbar.
Step 2 Adding text
The program offers two ways of adding text to the scene:
Step 3 Changing text properties
Once the necessary text is typed, you can adjust its parameters according to your needs. All the standard editing features are at your disposal at the “Editor” tab or within the Properties window.
Select your text or just a part of it with a mouse and change its color, font, font size, font style. You can underline or cross out your text, use caps and scripts, change horizontal and vertical scale, select an appropriate alignment variant, specify other paragraph settings. You can make any word or letter transparent. To do that select the necessary symbols with the mouse, open the “Text color” drop-down list and move the “Opacity” slider.
It’s also possible to activate the text area, so that it is surrounded by black squares, and apply changes to the whole text. You can change the location of the text area on the scene, just activate it and move to the necessary direction.
Step 4 Changing text duration and position
If you want your text to be appeared throughout the whole video, leave the “Text” rectangle equal to the video file duration at the timeline. If you need to see your text for a particular moment, change its duration and position on the video.
To change the duration, place the mouse cursor to the boundaries of the “Text” rectangle, it becomes a bidirectional arrow, and move them to the left or to the right.
To change the position, place the mouse cursor to the center of the “Text” rectangle, it becomes a hand shape, and move the rectangle to the left or to the right.
To achieve more precision, define the “Object creation time” values for the text object position and set “Object drawing duration” for its duration within a Properties window.
You can also give a stylish look to your text or subtitles adding a drop shadow. Watch how in our video tutorial below.
